COMMITTEE OF DIRECTORS OF ACADEMIC PLANNING OF NIGERIAN UNIVERISITIES (CODAPNU) AND THE ACTIVITIES

A forum of the Directors of Academic Planning was inaugurated at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, and at a conference in Kaduna in 1996, Professor I. I. Uvah, the then DAS, NUC, Director of Academic planning of Nigeria Universities, CODAPNU.

CODAPNU as a professional body in the University System, has now come a long way as a platform for bringing together the DAP’s and other Planning Officers with a view to enhancing effective and efficient academic planning functions in Nigeria University System.

Its, the CODAPNU, Training Workshop and Conferences present such activities designed for networking and equipping them with the requisite skills on academic planning curriculum development needs for Nigeria University system, they are also designed for networking and exchange of information among Universities thus industry benefiting from each other’s experience.

CODAPNU, also maintains a website www.codapnu.org.ng where papers from previous past conferences can be assessed, along with facilities for exchange of information on ongoing research work and collaboration activities can be advertised or accessed. Members and non-members are encouraged to visit the site from time to time for accurate and timely information on CODAPNU activities.

Academic Planning is often referred to as the heartbeat of the University system, and several DAPS often stepped up to a position of DVC and Vice Chancellors.

Aims

To Promote academic excellence in teaching, research and community service activities of the University;

To create awareness and recognition for academic planning as an area of Specialization in University Management;

To develop and strengthen the knowledge, skills and expertise of Academic Planners in Nigeria University;

To advance the cause of Academic Planning in Nigeria Universities.

Objectives

To liaise with and advice the National Universities Commission (NUC) on all matters relating to Academic Planning

To advice the committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC) and all other relevant agencies /bodies on issues of concern to academic planning and development in Nigeria Universities

To provide leadership to other Academic Planners in Nigeria Universities

To promote and facilitate the training and development of Academic Planners through seminars, conferences, workshop and publications

To promote exchange visits and the sharing of knowledge among Acadmic Planners within and outside the country

To solicit for scholarships, fellowship, grants and other forms of sponsorship

To encourage inter-institutional linkages and membership in related bodies

To be responsive to changes and challenges in contemporary University Management
